Wärtsilä receives orders for wartsila 31 engine

Recently, Wärtsilä announced at the 2016 Hamburg Maritime Show that its wartsila 31 engine has been selected as the host of a new seine/trawler being built by the Karstensen shipyard in Denmark. The ship's owner is Peter Hepsø Rederi AS of Norway, which will be the world's first fishing boat using the wartsila 31 engine.

Audhild Hepsø, General Manager of Peter Hepsø Rederi AS, said, “We will celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2017, so this new ship will represent the future of our fishing fleet. Wärtsilä's propulsion program can provide the ship with what we need. Efficiency and environmental sustainability."
It is reported that the new captain is 80 meters and will operate mainly in the North Atlantic, North Sea and Norwegian waters. In addition to the main engine, Wärtsilä will supply the entire propulsion system for the vessel, including a two-speed gearbox, controllable pitch propellers, nozzles, Wärtsilä propulsion control systems and shaft generator sets.
The wartsila 31 engine is available in three versions – diesel, dual fuel and spark ignition gases. This model is designed to serve a variety of ship types and can be used as a main engine propulsion with a power range of 4.2-9.8 MW.
During the sea trial, the wartsila 31 engine and the two-speed gearbox achieved 8% fuel savings compared to a single mechanical propulsion system, and a 15% fuel savings would be achieved in the future.
