It is reported that Optimarin will soon become the first environmentally friendly UV ballast water treatment system supplier to receive the US Coast Guard (USCG) type certification. 
Since Optimarin's ballast water treatment system meets USCG's stringent standards for freshwater, brackish water and seawater testing, DNV GL has submitted all final documents on behalf of Optimarin.
According to Optimarin, this is the best year for the company's business. On the basis of our success with the USCG test, we have seen an increase in orders, and more than 100 ballast water treatment systems have been signed so far.
The USCG certification standard will be more stringent than the International Maritime Organization standard, and all ballast water discharged from US waters will require the installation of a ballast water treatment system that meets stringent CMFDA standards. This will ensure that all potential invasive species are eliminated. For shipowners of the global fleet, the ability to operate flexibly in US waters is a must.
Optimarin expects final certification to be completed in the last quarter of 2016.
